How the story goes

One small trouble. Three turns.

A peek for grown-ups, so you know where the story is headed before you turn the first page.

  1. A small trouble

Kelly finishes the most complete creek map in the meadow. Then Cody asks why the creek bends, and Kelly doesn’t know.

  2. A brave choice

So she goes to look: water sliding around a clay bank, warm mud, a pebble rolling in the current.

  3. A happy turn

Her map fills with arrows, reasons, and new question marks. Kelly leaves a corner blank for the next why.

And the moral of the story

“Knowing where is good. Knowing why is better.”

Say it together at the last page. It’s short on purpose.

For grown-ups · After the last page

Talk about it.

  1. 1What did Kelly do instead of guessing?
  2. 2What would you want to find out about a creek?
  3. 3What is something you wonder why about?
