How the story goes

One small trouble. Three turns.

A peek for grown-ups, so you know where the story is headed before you turn the first page.

  1. A small trouble

Shawn promises to guard Val’s favorite puddle. Then the sun shrinks it, a bird sips it, and his own tail spills the rest.

  2. A brave choice

He could blame the sun or the bird. Instead he tells Val the whole truth: “I bumped the edge. I am sorry.”

  3. A happy turn

Together they build a new puddle, and Shawn stays until the first star, just as he promised.

And the moral of the story

“Say what you mean, and say it kindly.”

Say it together at the last page. It’s short on purpose.

For grown-ups · After the last page

Talk about it.

  1. 1Why did Shawn want to blame the sun?
  2. 2How did Val feel when he told the truth?
  3. 3When is it hard to say what really happened?
